"The only way to get her to be quiet was to take a book everywhere." Diane Hornes, Mother
S. Rénā + Co. Editorial Boutique, LLC is a Black-owned and operated editorial services provider specializing in developmental editing, line editing, ghostwriting, and book coaching. Founded by multi-award-winning editor Shaundale Rénā, clients range from newly independent to traditionally published veteran authors with fiction and nonfiction titles.
If you're ready to see what developmental editing with a dose of OCD looks like, then you are in the right place. As a result of what I do (and how I do it), people around the world have found the courage to confidently share their stories. Because, here, it's safe! You're safe. Let me show you how.
Who do you know with a book inside of them that I can help them birth? If it's you, then welcome home.
*Ghostwriting is done case-by-case. Inquire for details.
You can have the best-written story that makes absolutely no sense. There, I said it. A copyeditor cannot fix that. If you're here, welcome!
This is your home away—a place to tell your own story and to write it well. S. Rénā + Co. Editorial Boutique is a small, woman and minority-owned business that specializes in heavy substantive and developmental editing and goes beyond the surface of your content to create the story every writer longs to share—one every reader loves to read.
Imagine writing your final draft and getting it into the hands of a few good friends or professional colleagues, only to find out there are holes in the story or the content is all over the place. If they're not honest, you might celebrate your success and head to the printer. If they are, you may throw it in the trash or file it away for years to come. Before you do either, why not let me take a look at your manuscript? (Author bio and back cover synopsis are included.)
Developmental/Substantive editing includes:
Click the link below for your free 30-minute Discovery Call, and let's turn pages together! Relax and move on to the next item on your publishing checklist, or schedule to find out what it is, then let me help you tell your story the way it deserves to be told with big picture "macro" editing, content development, and book coaching.
See you on the other side of the page!
Shaundale
Listen, we're convinced some people don't want to see us happy. They want to see their perception of happiness projected onto us, and that's a load of bull. Free yourself to live the life you want to write about. Just write it right—the first time!
What's your story? Are you a survivor? Were you once the underdog? Why not tell it yourself?
Because every writer sees things differently, this is a safe place for the pages of your life to be re-defined and chapters to come together again to honor the story you want the world to hear. Recycle the past; your next idea is but one word away. Let me help you write it.
There was a time when I knew I wanted to write. I just didn't know what. Sound familiar?
If that's you, then why not:
No matter where you are, or what you went through to get there, pen your purpose. The world needs your story, so let's get together and set some goals, start a new writing prompt, or finish an old one that gets moved farther along. Go ahead! Treat yourself to a story worth living. Start your next season writing. You'll thank yourself later.
Coaching includes writing, publishing, and marketing strategies. Here's what you'll get in our editorial review after I evaluate and edit your manuscript:
Click the link below for your free 30-minute Discovery Call because a good book can grab anyone's attention, but only a great one will keep it! Let's connect to brainstorm and set goals for you to start living the life you deserve, your best write now. You're worth it!
If you're concerned about the direction of your story, whether you nailed your message, if your characters are well-rounded or fully developed, and all the other writing hits and misses you may or may not have been aware of, let me take a look. Before you change one more thing...before you ask another friend or beloved family member to "have a go at it," let's sit down together and review—line by line, page by page, chapter by chapter, even character by character (fiction).
An editorial assessment includes a detailed overview of your written content only (no editing). You will receive a multi-page letter (up to eight pages) that speaks to everything right, wrong, or in-between. Or everything good, bad, or indifferent might be a better way to say it, including in-line comments, suggestions, and examples. Plot holes, character arcs, pacing, action sequences, and dialogue are also evaluated for works of fiction.
Take my recommendations and know exactly what to change, add to, or remove altogether before second-guessing yourself one more time (or offending someone off the bat)! Feel confident that your story is your best story before you proceed.
A sensitivity review includes a thorough overview of your content from the perspective of a marginalized reader. (i.e., Black, female, etc.) You will receive detailed notes that target your intended audience, as opposed to who your perceived audience might be. If you said one thing, but meant another, let's be safe and err on the side of caution instead of playing it safe and not having it confirmed.
To give ether a try, simply complete the Intake form. A Discovery Call is optional, as we will meet via phone call for your one-on-one review (also optional) upon my evaluation and completion of your manuscript.
